Tame the Unavoidable Roller Coasters

I hesitate more than I wish I did, yet I still tend to encourage the gremlins to sip tea and chit-chat with my better self. I watered the gremlins with tea, damn. I am not the only one that waters their gremlins on a regular basis, I think most of us are in the habit of either directly or indirectly manifesting more obstacles (roller coaster loop-d-loops, drop outs, stall outs, and g-force corners) than we create experiences that accelerate us forward. Knowing that we are putting up our own obstacles, our own hurdles, is the first step to creating a life that flows more smoothly and more enjoyably. The only way we can get to these end results given that the gremlins are always around to distract us is to practice. Practice, practice, practice!

As a part of updating EmpathyLab.io recently, I came to realize that the lab and I have evolved tremendously since it was last updated. Dates were off, it was no longer 2020 on some pages, and our offerings have grown. I’ve failed to update the website because I simultaneously grew comfortable with where it was at AND feared disrupting the comfort with things that might not work. The funny thing is, the only way to know what works is to practice it, try it out!

As designer, I know that iteration is so very important to the process of progress, evolution, and innovation. As a business owner, iteration is also very important especially if I intend to see Empathy Lab’s mission and vision through. For some reason, the risk feels much higher as a business owner, yet the rewards are even greater - helping people improve for themselves and others! Helping others is worth all the loop-d-loops and drop outs that scare others away. Bring em on!

Here’s to taming the unavoidable roller coaster through practice!
